We were engaged by IBM and our friends at HealthDataViz to evaluate the Healthcare Cost & Utilization user support website. Originally launched in 2000, the HCUP-US site had not been touched from a design standpoint since, and AHRQ wanted an outside perspective to validate whether a redesign was warranted. Our work included a thorough architecture review, data analysis, surveys, one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and use cases. As part of our 160-page final report, we included recommendations for a new site structure and navigation approach, and design mockups. The consensus from our research showed that while users greatly value the HCUP content, they clearly want a new, modern interface.
